HSC Academy Week 1: Ninjutsu

Koichi had been having a bad day, ever since the morning had started. For one when the five year old had woken up, his mother’s cat had found status on his head and was using it as a licking device, which obviously ruined his hair, and he felt a headache coming on. While that had only really annoyed him partially, it had gotten worse. His brother and sister, as they usually did, took the bathroom for nearly two hours. Or at least it felt like two hours. Whatever the case, it felt so long before he could actually use the toilet.

And of course, the godforsaken device had clogged.

So he had listened to his mother scold him for using too much toilet paper. Which made his headache worse.

And then it was raining…the entire time to school. His umbrella, his favorite one in fact, had been pulled out of his grip by a sudden gust of wind, and though he had shouldered with his twin brother Toshiro under his own umbrella, both his left side, and Toshiro’s right were soaked to the bone which now made him feel sick.
Which made his mood only worsen.

“Now, you two behave.” Koneko said, eyeing her brothers, her hands on her hips.

“We heard that from Mom already KonKon.” Koichi grumbled, a bit harsher than he intended, earning a whack on the head. “OW!!” He yelped. He stormed away from his sister, without so much as a goodbye and got to his chair, shoving his face into his arms, his eyes burning. He just wanted this day to be over.

“Hey Koichi. How are you?” He heard. He only shifted a fraction, showing his friend Medashi that he had indeed heard him, but he was quite sure if he said anything, he would snap and probably say something stupid. The older boy looked at him curiously, before shrugging and sitting down next to him. The class started out slowly. As usual they first started out with Ninjutsu, and them listening from Era-sensei about chakra control, as well as elemental control.

“Now, there are five different elements that allow element ninjutsu to be performed.” Nekura explained. “First is fire. Fire natured chakra allows for Fire Release, which is strong against wind but weak against water. The next is wind. Wind natured chakra allows for Wind Release which is strong against lightning but weak against fire. After that is…”

“Lightning?” Koichi heard Koneko suggest and he rolled his eyes, pulling himself closer, trying not to look into the classroom. He was still angry from the horrible morning. Still, it wasn’t her fault…well except for the bathroom part, but she was a girl, and their mother took a long time too when it came to getting ready. He sighed and looked up, watching as Era-sensei nodded.

“Correct Nagano-san. Lightning. Lightning natured chakra allows for Lightning Release, which is strong against earth but weak against wind. The next is…”

“Earth.” Koichi mumbled. And Nekura looked at him and offered a sigh.

“Apparently the Nagano clan knows their knowledge about which comes next along with cat care.” He mumbled. “Also correct. Earth natured chakra allows for Earth Release, which is strong against water but weak against lightning. And the last would be water. Water natured chakra allows for Water Release, which is strong against fire but weak against earth. Now, you’re all probably wondering why I’m telling you this.”

“Would it be because that’s what we’re learning?” Koichi grumbled, only to be hit by a piece of chalk in the forehead. “OW!!” He said rubbing the knot forming on his forehead and heard some people laugh. He flushed and buried his head into his arms again.

“Rhetorical, Koichi Nagano.” Nekura stated and Koichi felt his eyes burning again, but blinked rapidly pushing back the tears, it was making his cold worse. Now the tears were of a different variety.

“The object of today’s lesson is control. To obtain a safe ability with your element, control is necessary. You wouldn’t like it if you set yourself on fire or caused an rock avala-”

“ACHOO!!!”

Had anyone else been outside the room, it probably sounded like an explosion echoed into the halls. Inside the classroom, everyone had hit the deck as a sudden splatter of rocks shot from the ground up. Koichi stood there, surrounded by imprints of pebbles. Nekura looked around at the ruined classroom as students began to raise their heads to survey the damage. Nekura nearly groaned.

Of course…the boy who had the least control to his mouth, and apparently his sneezing…had the elemental ninjutsu release that was the hardest to control.

Koichi sniffled. “Excuse me.” He said with a sniffle.

God have mercy on all of them.
